Plant glycolipids include galactolipids, mono- and digalactosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG and DGDG), and the sulfolipid sulfoquinovosyldiacylglycerol (SQDG). These glycolipids are crucial to photosynthesis in plants. When plants are exposed to situations that limit the availability of phosphates the amount of these glycolipids increase in the plastids of plants to replace phospholipids.
