Palmitic acid esters of hydroxystearic acid (PAHSA) are a specific type of a growing class of natural products found in organisms called fatty acid esters of hydroxy fatty acids (FAHFAs). PAHSA regioisomers are of particular interest due to their anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic effects. Beneficial health effects related to metabolic disorders have been linked to PAHSAs. These beneficial effects include type 1 and type 2 diabetes, colitis, and chronic inflammation. A study conducted in 2020 suggests that 9-PAHSA is a promising non-drug therapy due to its effect on lipotoxicity in steatotic primary hepatocytes and HepG2 cells. This class of compounds offers new hope for the prevention and treatment of many diseases.
